Outreach

Mt. Zion has a strong mission-oriented focus, allowing for many outreach projects in the community and beyond.

Ongoing mission projects:

  • Mt. Zion sponsors 10 children from Africa, Romania and India through Mission of Mercy, providing them with a Christian education, medical care, and healthy food. Students donate the funds to cover these sponsorships each month. A monthly contest is held between classes with the winning class receiving a "Lollipop Party"!
  • Mt. Zion participates in an annual Christmas toy drive.
  • Mt. Zion children participate annually in the Operation Christmas Child ministry of Samaritan's Purse either in donations or volunteering time at the shoebox distribution center.
  • The Mt. Zion Beta Club members volunteer each year with the local Special Olympics event.
  • The first through fifth grade students of Mt. Zion minister monthly at local retirement and assisted living homes in our area. The children visit Rolling Green, Evergreen, Bellaire and Greenville Glen Assisted Living to minister to the residents in song, recitation, arts and crafts, skits, prayer and fellowship.
  • Mt. Zion Christian School periodically donates classroom charts, learning materials, textbooks and curriculum to local homeschool groups as well as missionaries in foreign countries.
  • The Middle School students regularly perform service projects around the school, including, reading to the younger students, writing letters to mission kids, making cards for military personnel, writing letters of encouragement to MZ staff and peers, taking out trash for all teachers and staff, helping elementary teachers in their classrooms, helping EED teachers clean toys, picking up trash around the campus, and occasionally, helping put down mulch on the playgrounds.

Mission of Mercy children in just one week through donations.
  • January, 2010, our Mt. Zion families donated $1,519.92 for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. This money was distributed through Mission of Mercy.
  • January, 2009, our Middle School students raised $1,298.13 for our
Mission of Mercy children in just one week through donations.
  • December, 2008, the Mt. Zion families donated 133 toys to be distributed through Miracle Hill.
  • Mt. Zion sponsored 10 children to attend the 2007 Camp Hope - Liberia, sponsored by Hope Universal. This camp, held each Christmas, is an outreach to the children of Liberia who were once held captive by the rebels and forced to participate in war atrocities. These children are now freed and on their way to discovering what it means to be children. Hope Universal ministers to many of these children through counseling and Christian outreaches. Many of the estimated 300 children who were able to attend this year's camp are orphans whose parents were killed in the war and are living on the streets, under bridges and abandoned buildings. This year's Camp Hope provided a joy-filled Christmas that the children hadn't experienced for years through fun and games, plenty of food, and hours of Bible teaching and ministry.
  • The children and parents of Mt. Zion donated water bottle flavor packets to be sent to our US military personnel in Afghanistan.

Past Ministry Opportunities

  • Mt. Zion has been a monthly supporter of Janz Team Ministries. An independent faith mission with just over one hundred workers overseas and in North America. Historically it has focused on mass evangelism with a clear call to a conscious and active faith in Christ. The work has expanded to include many forms of evangelism, the most recent being TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
